COMDIAL ELOQUENCE

Eloquence is a line of 1 and 2-port auto-attendant and voice mail products. There are three categories of Eloquence, with different models in each category:

Eloquence NVE
The NVE models are intended to work in an integrated fashion with multiple Comdial analog key systems. The NVE is available in a 1 and 2-port auto-attendant only version and also in 1 and 2-port auto-attendant/voice mail versions with between 30 and 90 minutes of storage. Units with 30 minutes of storage can be upgraded to 90 minutes.

Eloquence NVI
The NVI models are intended to work in an integrated fashion with Comdial's DSU key system. The NVI is available in a 2-port auto-attendant only and in a 2-port auto-attendant/voice mail version with between 30 and 90 minutes of storage. Units with 30 minutes of storage can be upgraded to 90 minutes.

Eloquence NVL
The NVL models are compatible (but not "integrated") with a wide range of key systems. The NVL is available in a 1 and 2-port auto-attendant only version and also in 1 and 2-port auto-attendant/voice mail versions with between 30 and 90 minutes of storage. Units with 30 minutes of storage can be upgraded to 90 minutes.

Integrated vs. Non-Integrated
Integrated Operation (NVE & NVI Models)
The NVI and NVE models connect directly to a proprietary station port on a Comdial phone system (an analog terminal adapter is not required). When the telephone system port is programmed as a voice mail port, the Eloquence receives additional signaling from the phone system. That signaling provides enables Eloquence to determine a number of things.

For example, a phone call is answered by a company's receptionist, transferred to a telephone that doesn't answer and then call forwarded to Eloquence (assuming the phone system is programmed accordingly). When the call arrives that the Eloquence, it will be accompanied by digits representing the station number of the unanswered phone. Eloquence then knows what mailbox to send the call to, so the next thing the caller hears is the personal greeting of the person they were trying to reach. The presence of this type of this type of signaling between the phone system and voice mail system is what is meant by "integrated" operation.

The level of integration Eloquence is capable of providing will vary according to the particular Comdial phone system involved and the software revision level of the phone system. Optimum operation may require updating phone system software. Contact us to determine what level of integration is available for specific Comdial phone systems. (Refer to Table 1 for general guidelines.)

Non-integrated Operation (NVL Models)
Eloquence will operate with systems when "integration" is not present, however the level of operation will be less sophisticated. The NVL tracks call progress tones (ringing and busy) to determine how a call should be processed. For example, let's say a call is answered by Eloquence's auto-attendant, the caller selects an extension number and is transferred. Eloquence is doing a "supervised " transfer, meaning that it doesn't release the call until it detects an answer at the target extension. If the call is not answered, Eloquence knows what mailbox to send the caller to, so the next thing the caller hears is the personal greeting of the person they were trying to reach.

This may appear to be the same as integrated operation but it differs in the following way. If the call had been first answered by the company's receptionist and transferred to a no-answer extension, when the phone system forwarded the call to Eloquence, instead of hearing the personal greeting of the no-answer extension, the caller would hear the main auto-attendant greeting: "Hello, you've reached Acme Company. If you know the extension number of the person you'd like to reach dial it now. Otherwise" etc. Eloquence cannot send the call directly to the correct mailbox because there is no integration signaling between Eloquence and the phone system.

There are quite a number of phone systems that Eloquence originally worked with on a non-integrated basis. Each of these systems has a code number assigned to it in Eloquence programming. When programming Eloquence NVL, you enter the code number for the phone system you're working with. When you enter the code number, Eloquence automatically configures itself for the ringing cadence and timing of that phone system. However, more recent software and hardware revisions by the telephone system manufacturer may affect how Eloquence would currently operate with a given phone system. NVL models require a 2500 type station (regular single-line phone) interface to the phone system. Check with us for additional details. Table 2 provides the original list of compatible phone systems for which the Eloquence NVL.
